HC Deb 12 April 1938 vol 334 cc950-1W
Colonel Ponsonby

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that, before the last Tithe Act, it was the custom to hold the largest landholder responsible for the apportionment of tithe, whereas the principle now is that the smallest owner should be called upon to pay the amount and then collect the amount from the other owners; and whether, if the facts are submitted to him, he will investigate the grievance of a firm in Kent at this change of policy?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

My hon. and gallant Friend is in error in supposing that the principle suggested has been adopted, but he has since given me the facts of the particular case to which he refers and I am communicating with him in the matter.
