HC Deb 17 November 1937 vol 329 c403W
Mr. De la Bère

asked the Home Secretary whether he is prepared to consider a scheme for the national registration of finger prints throughout the country with a view to storing them, thus making it easier for the police to trace persons suffering from loss of memory?

Mr. Lloyd

Finger prints undoubtedly afford an easy and certain means of establishing identity, but my right hon. Friend would not feel justified in considering the question of a national finger print registry for the purpose indicated unless he were satisfied that there is a real and general desire for such a system.
