HC Deb 03 November 1937 vol 328 cc956-7W
Mr. T. Smith

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether his attention has been drawn to the complaint made by the local authority and inhabitants of Peterborough regarding the intensive night-flying being carried out over the city; whether he is aware that, since a deputation from the city council was received by the Ministry, the grievance has been worse; and whether steps will at once be taken to arrange that such night-flying as is necessary shall be carried out over open country and away from the city?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

I am advised that there has been no intensification of night-flying over the city of Peterborough since I received the deputation in July last. Since the ending of summer time on 3rd October night-flying has ended before midnight. The night-flying training at Peterborough consists to a large extent of landing and taking-off practice and this naturally has to be carried out at the aerodrome and hence in the vicinity of the city.
