HC Deb 03 November 1937 vol 328 cc934-5W
Mr. Hall-Caine

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the slow progress which is being made in the signposting of footpaths and bridle-ways; and whether, with a view to reducing the number of pedestrians who use the main traffic routes, he will consider making some financial grant towards such signposting?

Mr. Burgin

I am always ready to authorise signs for the purpose which my hon. Friend has in mind and where they are on classified roads outside county boroughs they automatically rank for grant. Last year, in connection with the question of road safety among school children, my Department drew the attention of all highway authorities to the desirability of maintaining and sign-posting field paths.
