HC Deb 02 November 1937 vol 328 c732W
Mr. E. Smith

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he will appoint a committee for the purpose of considering evidence from interested organisations in the British pavilion at the Paris Exhibition to report and make recommendations with a view to securing in the future the best possible exhibits that will reflect the industry, skill, and experience of the British people at exhibitions?

Mr. L. Smith

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether, in view of the dissatisfaction ex pressed by many visitors to the Paris Exhibition over the exhibit staged by Great Britain, he will set up a committee of industrialists and show experts before again arranging a similar exhibit outside this country?

Mr. R. S. Hudson

The procedure for dealing with official participation in exhibitions outside this country is constantly under review, and I can assure my hon. Friends that in every such future exhibition all steps will be taken to secure the fullest co-operation with industry and others having appropriate knowledge. Having regard, however, to the varying nature of the circumstances and degree of importance of these exhibitions, it is not possible to lay down a stereotyped procedure which would be capable of general application.
