During the financial year ended 31st March, 1936, the total expenditure of local education authorities on the education and treatment of children in special schools of all types was £2,110,693, of which 5o per cent. was met by grants from the Board of Education. I regret that exact information is not available as to the amount of this expenditure which is attributable to schools for cripple children, but it appears probable that the amount is about £500,000 a year.
