§ Sir J. SimonYes, Sir. I am aware of the figures stated. As regards the last part of the question no precise figures for alien immigration can be given, but the number of aliens registered with the police in 1936 was 185,758 as compared with 260,000 approximately in 1927. In comparing these figures account must be taken of the fact that in 1933 about 45,000 women of British birth were exempted from registration and their names removed from the register.
