§ Colonel Burtonasked the Home Secretary whether he will state the number of cases of corporal punishment in each of the approved schools during the year 1936 or for 12 months to the last convenient date?
§ Sir J. SimonTo obtain the particulars asked for would involve a considerable amount of clerical work. The conditions under which corporal punishment is permitted in approved schools are laid down in the Approved School Rules of 1933, of which I am sending my hon. and gallant Friend a copy. Complete records of all cases of corporal punishment are required to be kept at the schools and are closely scrutinised by the Inspectors.
