HC Deb 11 February 1937 vol 320 c615W
Mr. Short

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the dissatisfaction concerning the lack of uniformity of policy in granting or refusing certificates of exception under the Unemployment Insurance Acts to certain railway workers employed in Doncaster, any investigation has been made; and does he propose to take any action to ensure equality of treatment in cases where workers are following the same calling?

Mr. E. Brown

There is not, so far as I am aware, any lack of uniformity of policy in this matter. It became necessary in 1933 to discontinue for the time being any further additions to the list of railway servants excepted from unemployment insurance, and it is this which has given rise to the difference of treatment in certain cases of which the hon. Member has sent me particulars. I may add that the general question is under review at the present time.
