Williamsasked the Minister of Labour whether he will give the number of applicants in the Bridgend, Aberkenfig, Maesteg, Pontycymmer, and Ogmore Vale Exchanges who have made an application to the Unemployment Assistance Board for winter allowances in accord with the increased cost of living; the number granted allowance; and the amount?
§ Mr. E. BrownI regret that this information is not available for Employment Exchange areas. In the Board's administrative areas of Brigend and Maesteg which include the areas of the Exchanges mentioned the number of additions made to assessments on account of the special circumstances dealt with in the Board's recent circular during the four weeks ended 30th November was 1,973 with an average value of about 2s. 2d. These figures exclude cases in which the assessment already contained an equal or greater addition under standstill arrangements. With regard to the number of applications, I would refer the hon. Member to a reply which I gave on 18th November to the hon. Member for Llanelly.
