HC Deb 23 December 1937 vol 330 cc2180-1W
Mr. Jenkins

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can state the total expenditure, to the most convenient date, incurred in the transfer of young people of 21 years of age and under from each of the Special Areas; and also the sum expended in subsidising them after transfer?

Mr. E. Brown

The total expenditure incurred in the transfer of juveniles of 18 years of age and under from areas scheduled under the juveniles transference scheme from 1st January, 1935, to 30th September, 1937, was £298,410, of which £167,040 represents grants towards the cost of maintenance in the new areas until the juveniles become self-supporting. It is not possible to give separate figures for each of the Special Areas, nor for young people aged 19 to 21 years.
