§ Sir J. SimonThere is no law or regulation under which an attestation by an alien that he is a British subject could be accepted as proof of such change of status. Persons to whom certificates of naturalisation are granted are required to take an oath of allegiance before the naturalisation becomes effective, and possibly the hon. Member is referring to persons who take such oaths before a magistrate—though I cannot find that there have been any Turks or Armenians among the persons in Liverpool who have been naturalised this year.
