WILLIAMSasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has received a petition from certain Kikuyu chiefs, in which it is stated that while the Kenya estimates for European and Indian education in 1936 have been increased by £3,967 and £3,132, respectively, African education for the same period is cut by 23,963; and what is the justification for this differential treatment?
Mr. THOMASThe answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regards the second part of the question1414W the Governor has explained that the reduction in the cost of African education is in no sense due to curtailment of services, but is solely attributable to a reorganisation of the existing staff which will lead to considerable economy without loss of efficiency.
