HC Deb 07 May 1930 vol 238 c972W
Sir K. WOOD

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will state the number of men concerned at the Royal Arsenal and the weekly wages, including overtime, earned by each of them during the week before short time was ordered by the Government; and similar information for the first week during which such short time was in operation?

Mr. SHAW

The number of employés, male and female, directly affected by the short-time scheme at the Ordnance Factories, Woolwich, during its first week, i.e., the week ended 12th April, 1930, was 4,897. The average wage (including overtime) of those employés for that week was £3 4s. 10d., and the corresponding figure for the week ended 29th March, 1930, was £3 12s. 6d. The intermediate week was not a normal week, as it included stocktaking.
