Viscountess ASTORasked the Home Secretary how many on-licences, and how many off-licences there were in the city of Carlisle, exclusive of the adjoining districts, which were taken over by the Liquor Control Board; and how many there are in the same area to-day?
§ Mr. SHORTThe number of licensed premises taken over by the Central Control Board (Liquor Traffic) in the city of Carlisle, exclusive of the adjoining districts, was 116 of which 12 were off-licences. There are now 59 premises in the city of Carlisle in which the sale of liquor is carried on by the State and of these five are used exclusively for off-sales.
