HC Deb 15 April 1930 vol 237 cc2750-1W
Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Home Secretary if he has any information to convey to the House on the proposed inquiry into the hours of labour in shops, consequent upon the Second Reading of the Shops (Hours of Employment) Bill on 21st March last?

Mr. R. TAYLOR

asked the Home Secretary whether he has decided what form of inquiry shall take place into the hours of labour of shop workers in accordance with the Government's promise; and the proposed terms of reference?

Mr. SHORT

It is considered that the most suitable form of inquiry would be by a Select Committee of this House, and steps are being taken through the usual channels with a view to the setting up of the Committee. My right hon. Friend hopes that it may be possible to give notice of the necessary Motion with the proposed terms of reference before the Adjournment for the Recess.
