HC Deb 06 November 1929 vol 231 cc1057-8W
Sir K. VAUGHAN-MORGAN

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether any correspondence has taken place in recent years with the Prime Minister of Canada regarding the transfer without compensation of the Grand Trunk perpetual stocks to the Finance Minister of Canada; and whether, in view of the fact that the Grand Trunk Company hold real property in the city of Westminster, and that the control of this property was transferred to the Canadian National Railway Company by a Canadian Order in Council, representations can be made to the Canadian Government on the matter?

Mr. PONSONBY

No communication on this subject has been made to the Prime Minister of Canada except an informal one acquainting him with what passed at an interview given at the Dominions Office to a deputation of Grand Trunk junior stockholders in October, 1927. It was explained to the deputation that the matter was not one in which the Government here could intervene. This has been the view of successive Governments, and it is shared by the present Government.
