HC Deb 06 November 1929 vol 231 c1057W
Mr. MACPHERSON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade as representing the Forestry Commissioners, whether he is aware that the tenants of Achmore, Stromeferry, and of Luibaneorn, Glenshill, are both under notice to quit their holdings at the instance of the Forestry Commissioners in May next; and whether, in view of the hardship proposed to be inflicted on these tenants, one of whom at least desires to have the opportunity of purchasing his holding in the same way as his neighbours, the Forestry Commissioners will now reconsider their proposed action which is creating misgiving in the district?

Mr. W. R. SMITH

The tenants of Achmore have been given notice to quit. It is not considered that any hardship is inflicted, as their tenancy was extended for four years to give them time to find another farm. The land is now required for planting and the provision of three forest workers' holdings. The Forestry Commissioners have not given notice to the tenant of Luibaneorn.
