HC Deb 05 November 1929 vol 231 cc873-4W
Mr. GOULD

asked the Secretary for Mines what changes, if any, have been recommended respecting the pit-cage gates as used in certain of the Somerset coal mines; and whether any action has been taken to ensure greater safety to the men and boys when riding in the cage?

Mr. TURNER

This matter has been engaging the attention of the Inspectors of Mines during the last three months, and provision has been or is being made for the fitting of some form of device to prevent the accidental displacement of cage gates of the kind in question.
