HC Deb 05 November 1929 vol 231 c863W
Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Labour whether she is aware that in many cases applicants for unemployment benefit who are cripples have to walk three to four miles to Employment Exchanges and the same distance home, to report twice weekly; and whether there are any funds available in her Department that can defray the travelling expenses of such crippled applicants?

Miss BONDFIELD

There is no fund out of which travelling expenses can be paid, but I am always prepared to make special arrangements for less frequent attendance by a claimant who, though crippled, is capable of work.
