HC Deb 05 November 1929 vol 231 cc863-4W
Sir R. ASKE

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether he is aware that the action of the Government in cancelling and slowing down the building of warships has resulted in a considerable number of boilermakers and shipbuilders being thrown out of employment; whether his attention has been drawn to a resolution of the Boilermakers' and Shipbuilders' Society upon the subject; and whether he will state what measures he is taking with the object of affording substituted employment for the men in these industries?

Mr. THOMAS

Yes, Sir, I am aware of the resolution referred to. As regards the last part of the question, I would refer to the answer given on the 31st October to the hon. and gallant Member for the Isle of Wight (Captain P. Macdonald).
