HC Deb 17 July 1929 vol 230 c455W
Mr. W. BROWN

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what is the number of serving civil servants in the women clerical officer, writing assistant, and typing grades, respectively, who qualified in the executive class examination of 1928 and have not, so far, been called up?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

The standard attained by the general body of candidates (600 in number) who attended this competitive examination was so high as to render it unnecessary in view of the number of vacancies to be filled there from for the Civil Service Commissioners to determine a point on the list above which any candidate might have been deemed eligible for appointment. Information based on the number of candidates placed above such a point is not therefore available.
