HC Deb 09 December 1929 vol 233 cc45-6W
Major POLE

asked the Secretary of State for India as to the present position in regard to the completion of the amended scheme for the reclamation of land in Back Bay, Bombay; and whether that part of the reclaimed area prepared for the Government of India has been taken over by the central Government and the financial transaction involved completed?

Mr. BENN

The programme of work as at present arranged, excluding development, is expected to be completed by the year 1931–32. The period re- quired for complete development will depend on the rate at which the reclaimed lands can be sold to the public. Of this no accurate estimate can at present be made. Only a small area of reclaimed land has so far been taken over by the Central Government and the financial transactions are not complete.
