HC Deb 09 December 1929 vol 233 c46W
Major POLE

asked the Secretary of State for India if any representations have been received by the Government of India from Indian industrial and commercial associations in regard to the Report of Mr. G. S. Hardy on the question of substituting a system of specific duties in place of the existing system of ad valorem assessment of cotton goods imported into India; if so, whether he will inform the House of the terms of such representations; and whether it is the intention of the Government of India to adopt the view expressed in Mr. Hardy's Report?

Mr. BENN

The report was only published on 29th November. I am not aware of any such representations having been made nor have I yet received the Government of India's views.
