§ Major GLYNasked the Postmaster-General whether the number of male night operators at the London telephone exchanges have been reduced, or from what cause are delays in answering subscribers' calls so frequent after the night staff relieve the day staff, notably at Langham exchange; and what steps can be taken to obtain a reply from the supervisor in charge when endeavouring to register a complaint?
§ Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSONThere has been no reduction in the number of male night operators in London and there should be no undue delay at any exchange in answering subscribers' calls, and no difficulty in obtaining the supervisor. According to the observation records, the average speed of answer at the Langham Exchange at night is 8.6 seconds. If my hon. and gallant Friend has any particular case in mind and will furnish details, I shall be pleased to investigate it.
