Mr. ROBINSONasked the Postmaster-General if his attention has been drawn to the fact that in certain instances 1707W postal officials have informed parents of soldiers killed in the War that the pension ceases on the death of the person to whom the pension was awarded; and whether, seeing that the Regulations of the Ministry of Pensions provide for the pension being transferred to the surviving parent, he will issue instructions that the officials should in all cases advise the surviving parent to write to the Ministry of Pensions about the continuance of the pension?
§ Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSONThe answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. With regard to the second part, the instructions issued to Post Office servants state that the responsibility for the issue of a pension lies with the issuing authority, to whom applicants must be referred. If the hon. Member will furnish me with particulars of any cases in which misapprehension has occurred, I will consider whether the present instructions require amplification.
