HC Deb 17 November 1927 vol 210 cc1146-7W
Mr. GILLETT

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to the fact that quite recently a woman has been killed whilst crossing Pentonville Road, near the Angel; and whether he has considered the advisability of fixing special crossing places near the Angel on similar lines to those arranged for in Oxford Street and other West End thoroughfares?

Colonel ASHLEY

I am advised that the unfortunate accident to which the hon. Member refers was occasioned by the deceased woman stepping off the kerb immediately in front of a taxi-cab. In reply to the latter part of the question, I should be prepared favourably to consider an application by the local authority for financial assistance towards the cost of the erection of special pedestrian crossing signs near the Angel, similar to those which are now the subject of an experiment in certain areas in the West End, at points where there is either a central refuge or a crossing under the control of police officers on point duty.
