HC Deb 16 November 1927 vol 210 c1046W
Major BRAITHWAITE

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the process of mechanising the Army will lead to a reduction in the personnel and a reduction of expenditure in the Army Estimates?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

Although the experiments in mechanisation, up to the present, point towards the possibility of a saving in personnel, it is still too early to speak with certainty or to forecast what effect mechanisation will have on future Army Estimates. The outlay in providing the armament and mechanised vehicles will be heavy for some years to come.
