HC Deb 16 November 1927 vol 210 cc1046-7W
Sir A. HOLBROOK

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in the contracts recently issued for the repairs of buildings occupied by troops on Salisbury Plain, any conditions were imposed for the employment of the ex-service men who have hitherto been employed on this work by the military authorities?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

Contractors to be eligible to tender must be on the King's Roll, if they employ more than 25 men. It is not considered practicable to prescribe the number of ex-service men whom a contractor must employ, but the attention of firms tendering for the contracts in question is drawn to the large number of ex-service men who are at present unemployed, and they are asked to state what proportion of ex-service men they are prepared to employ in the event of their obtaining the contract.
