§ Mr. CADOGANasked the Postmaster-General whether he will consider the possibility of instituting entrance by open competition for the Government wireless and cable services instead of confining entry to these services to boy messengers?
§ Viscount WOLMERVacancies for male operators in the Post Office wireless and cable services are not filled directly by boy messengers, but by the transfer of fully qualified telegraphists already employed in other branches of the Post Office service. I consider it desirable to maintain this arrangement. The existing scheme of recruitment to the classes of telegraphist and sorting clerk and telegraphist provides for the holding of open competitions when required, as well as for the selection of boy messengers, and special facilities exist for the admission of qualified ex-service men.
