HC Deb 11 November 1926 vol 199 c1278W
Sir C. OMAN

asked the Postmaster-General whether a postmaster is entitled to refuse for acceptance at his office letters stamped with unused postage stamps of Queen Victoria; and, if so, whether there is any method of obtaining a refund of the facial value of such stamps from the post office, money value having been paid for them in the past?

Viscount WOLMER

Postage stamps issued in the reign of Queen Victoria are not available for the prepayment of correspondence. Under arrangements notified at the time in the "London Gazette" and the Press, the last issues of the stamps of this reign were invalidated on the 30th June, 1915; and the public were allowed to exchange them for cash until the end of that year and no longer. The answer to the last part of the question is therefore in the negative.
