asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has yet received any payment in respect of the debt instalment due from France this year; whether he has been in negotiation with the French Government with a view to rendering Treasury aid for the stabilisation of the franc; and whether any steps have been taken by the British Government to that end?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The sum of £2,000,000 was received from France as a first instalment in respect of her War Debt on 15th September last. The answer to the second and third parts of the question is in the negative.
