HC Deb 09 November 1926 vol 199 c902W
Mr. FORREST

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the allegations regarding the impurity of the flour sold to the general public; and what, if any, steps he is taking or has taken in this matter?

Mr. NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN

I am aware that it is a common practice to add certain chemical substances to flour with the object of modifying its baking properties. The question whether such additions are objectionable on grounds of health and what restrictions, if any, should be placed on them in the interest of the public health has been referred to a Departmental Committee for consideration and report.
