HC Deb 09 February 1926 vol 191 cc865-6W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Minister of Health whether his Department has acquainted the Admiralty with the serious housing situation in Devonport, and represented to them the inadvisability of sending any more men into the town from the dock-yards of Pembroke and Rosyth?

Sir K. WOOD

The Admiralty are aware of the housing situation at Devonport. No such suggestion as that referred to in the second part of the question has been made

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Minister of Health whether he has received a Report from the inspector who recently visited the houses on the Swilly estate, Devonport; whether he can now say if the defective houses specified in the letter addressed to him by the hon. Member for Devonport (Mr. Hore-Belisha) have been put in repair; and what action, if any, has teen taken: with regard to the contractors who built the houses?

Sir K. WOOD

My right hon. Friend has received the Report referred to. He understands that at the time of the inspection the Plymouth Town Council had already taken steps to remedy such defects as existed and is satisfied that they have the matter well in hand. The Council will, no doubt, have regard to these defects in arriving at a final settlement of the accounts of the contractors concerned.
