HC Deb 04 February 1926 vol 191 c345W
Mr. MACLEAN

asked the Minister of Health the number of houses that have been built under the housing scheme in Great Britain, the number still remaining to be built, and the total sum already spent by the Ministry on housing?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The total number of houses completed in England and Wales up to the 1st January last in connection with schemes of State assistance under the Housing Acts is 363,613. In addition to those, it is estimated that some 222,500 houses had been built without Exchequer subsidy up to the 30th September last. There are over 210,000 houses in respect of which authorisations have been given which have not yet been completed. The total amount of payments made by the Exchequer on account of housing grants under various Housing Acts up to and including the 30th January last is £42,752,658. As regards similar information for Scotland, I would suggest that the hon. Member should address a question to my right hon. Friend the Secretary for Scotland.
