HC Deb 04 February 1926 vol 191 cc344-5W
Mr. MACLEAN

asked the Secretary for Scotland the number of building trade operatives who have been employed in Scotland on housing schemes during 1925; and the number employed on buildings, other than housing schemes, during the same period?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The average number of building trade operatives, including labourers and apprentices, employed in Scotland on State-assisted housing schemes promoted by local authorities during 1925 was 6,060. Corresponding information is not available as to numbers employed by private enterprise on housing schemes or on buildings other than housing; but I am informed by my fight hon. Friend the Minister of Labour that in July last the estimated number of insured workers in the building trade in Scotland was 69,440.
