HC Deb 09 December 1926 vol 200 cc2324-5W
Mr. BARNES

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the fact that overcrowding on the East End section of the District Railway is increasing during the rush hours, he contemplates taking any action to lessen this grievance?

Colonel ASHLEY

The Metropolitan District Railway Company inform me that an additional train was put into service on the 1st December, but that it is impossible to increase further at the moment the service between their system and East Ham and Barking. I understand, however, that certain alterations are being carried out on the London. Midland and Scottish Railway which will permit of increased services in the future.

Mr. BARNES

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that delays, apart from those caused by fog, appear to be increasing on the District Railway from East Ham to the Mansion House, and whether he will communicate with the responsible authorities to ascertain the cause?

Colonel ASHLEY

I am not aware of the circumstances to which the hon. Member refers, and the Metropolitan District Railway Company, whose attention I have called to this complaint, state that they have no knowledge of increased delay in dealing with the traffic on this section of their line. Perhaps the hon. Member could give me some further particulars.
