HC Deb 21 May 1924 vol 173 c2228W
Mr. RENTOUL

asked the President of the Board of Trade what proportion of the £5,000,000 originally advanced by the Treasury for payment of losses due to enemy action during the War has already been paid over to claimants; what is the amount involved in claims already admitted for settlement but not yet paid; and, after all such claims have been paid, what is the estimated amount of the balance that will remain in the hands of his Department or of the Treasury?

Mr. ALEXANDER

As to the first part of the question, the payable orders issued amount to approximately 84 per cent. of the £5,000,000. As to the second and last parts of the question, it is estimated that the claims admitted for compensation will absorb, approximately, the rest of the £5,000,000.
