HC Deb 21 May 1924 vol 173 cc2227-8W
Mr. W. THORNE

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of imported foreign-made leather gloves during the years 1922 and 1923; and whether the gloves are stamped with the name of the country of origin?

Mr. LUNN

The imports of leather gloves into the United Kingdom registered as consigned from foreign countries amounted to 447,796 dozen pairs in 1922 and to 608,592 dozen pairs in 1923. As from 1st April, 1923, these particulars are exclusive of direct imports, if any, into the Irish Free State. I have no knowledge of the extent to which these gloves are marked on importation or on sale with the name of the country of origin.
