HC Deb 02 August 1923 vol 167 c1749W
Mr. R. DAVIES

asked the Minister of Labour the present position in relation to the proposed new road between Manchester and Liverpool?

Colonel ASHLEY

I have been asked to answer this question. As I stated on 14th May, in reply to a question from the hon. Member for Barrow-in-Furness (Mr. D. Somerville), the local authorities concerned were told that the offer of a contribution from the Road Fund equivalent to one-half of the approved cost of the work would remain open for their acceptance up to September. The attitude at present adopted by several of the local authorities leads me to fear that advantage will not be taken of the offer within the time limit.
