HC Deb 02 August 1923 vol 167 cc1749-50W
Mr. TILLETT

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport whether he is aware that many cases of excessive speed and driving to the danger of the public in connection with drivers of road commercial vehicles arise from the fact that the driver is instructed by his employers to conform to a time schedule, which compels the disregarding of the law relating to the rule of the road; if such time schedule is to be observed; and will he inquire into the matter?

Colonel ASHLEY

There is, so far as I am aware, no available evidence that the improper driving referred to in the question is occasioned by the prescription by employers of time schedules which cannot be carried out without breaking the law. Inquiries are being made into the matter, and I shall be glad to receive any evidence which may be in the hon. Member's possession.
