HC Deb 17 April 1923 vol 162 c1908W
Sir J. HOOD

asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that the mails, carrying bills of lading from London to Shanghai, are frequently delivered after the arrival by slower cargo boats carrying the goods, and thus making it necessary for the goods to be stored at considerable expense in godowns pending the arrival of the bills of lading; and whether he will inquire into the matter with a view to remedying the complaint?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

It has been arranged for an additional mail for Shanghai to be sent overland, for conveyance from Suez by the fast steamers of the Holt Line. Since this arrangement was introduced early last month, I understand that the inconvenience mentioned by the hon. Member has ceased.
