HC Deb 29 November 1920 vol 135 cc933-4W
Mr. BRIANT

asked the Prime Minister whether a note replying to Great Britain's explanation of the Anglo-French Agreement in regard to the Mesopotamian oilfields has been received from Washington; if so, what are its terms; and, if not, whether on receipt of the note he will communicate its terms to the House?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

A note such as indicated in the hon. Member's question has been received, and will be laid before Parliament, together with the reply, with the least possible delay.

Mr. ORMSBYGORE

asked the Prime Minister whether any proposal to form a Middle Eastern Department, either under a separate Minister or under the Colonial Office, is now under the consideration of the Government; if so, when a decision on this matter may be expected; whether it has been definitely decided that Mesopotamia and Aden are to be transferred from the control and supervision of the India Office and a pledge given to Sir Percy Cox to this effect; and when this transfer will take place?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have nothing to add to the reply given on 25th October to my hon. and gallant Friend. The matter is still under the consideration of the Government.
