§ Mr. PURCHASE asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the fact that there are only two articles of food which are now controlled, he would consider the advisability of reducing the staffs at the local food offices, thereby decreasing the expenses of his Department
§ Mr. McCURDY: At 30th June, when Food Control Committees cease to exist, a reduction in the staffs of local food offices of about 3,400 is to be made, with a consequent reduction in expenditure amounting to nearly £500,000. As regards the duties falling upon the regional organisation of the Ministry of Food, I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given on Wednesday, 9th June, to the hon. Member for Bradford Central (Mr. Radcliffe). The hon. Member is under a misapprehension as to the number of foodstuffs at present controlled by statutory order.
