§ Sir W. BULL asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what is the annual cost of the staff which the Government propose to retain in connection with the Sections of the Finance (1909–10) Act, 1910, dealing with land values duty, which will remain unrepealed if the Finance Bill be passed in the present form?
§ Mr. BALDWIN: The annual cost of the Inland Revenue staff which would, if Parliament authorises the repeal of the Increment Value Duty, Reversion Duty and Undeveloped Land Duty, be required to carry out the work remaining under Part I. of the Finance (1909–10) Act, 1910, in connection with the assessment and collection of duty would not exceed £4,000. I would remind my hon. Friend, however, that the Valuation Department has important duties to perform wholly unconnected with the Land Values Duties, and that the Select Committee of this 70W House on National Expenditure has consented to examine the question of the staff required for the efficient performance of those duties.
