§ Mr. GILBERTasked the Home Secretary whether he has appointed yet the 1935W Departmental Committee he has promised to consider the conditions of service, the number of hours per day or per week, and the wages of members of fire brigades in this country; and can he state the names of the members and the reference he has given them, and if evidence is to be heard to whom interested parties should apply?
§ Mr. SHORTTThe appointment of this Committee has been unfortunately delayed by the temporary absence from this country of a Member of this House who is specially qualified to assist the Committee, and I hope will do so. The names of members and the terms of reference will be published as soon as the Committee is appointed. It will be for the Committee to settle their procedure and invite evidence if they so desire.
