§ Brigadier-General CROFTasked the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the fact that there are numerous medical officers who, by joining the Army, sacrificed their practices; and whether steps are being taken to ensure that employment as far as possible shall be given to demobilised temporary medical officers?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLEvery sympathy has been shown to the officers referred to by my hon. and gallant Friend, and instruc- 639W tions were issued some time ago to Military Commands that when the part-time services of civil medical practitioners are required every endeavour should be made to employ those demobilised officers who have served overseas. I understand also from the Ministry of Health that endeavours are made to give preference as far as possible to ex-Service candidates for appointments under local authorities.
§ Brigadier-General CROFTasked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether certain orders have been issued for giving demobilised temporary medical officers preference in Government medical work; and, if so, whether this order is being carried out by all Government Departments concerned?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLI am afraid I can add nothing to my reply to-day to an oral question on this subject asked by my hon. and gallant Friend.
