HC Deb 29 May 1919 vol 116 cc1452-3W
Mr. JOHN DAVISON

asked the Secretary of State for War whether German prisoners are being employed on turning, fitting, and blacksmith work at the Army Service Corps Depot, Dorchester; and whether it is proposed to withdraw this prisoner-labour from this work?

Mr. FORSTER

A few German prisoners of war are being employed as stated. They will be withdrawn in accordance with instructions already issued as soon as they can be replaced by civilian labour.

Mr. DAVISON

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether ho is aware that German prisoners are being employed under the Road Board at Portland; and whether he will have inquiries made into this matter with a view to the removal of this prisoner-labour and the substitution of British civilian workers?

Sir R. HORNE

I have been asked to reply to this question. I understand that the German prisoners formerly employed under the Road Board at Portland were removed a month ago.
