HC Deb 28 May 1919 vol 116 c1260W
Mr. SITCH

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that all the clay miners in the Stourbridge area are out on strike owing to the omission of their employers to pay amounts that the men consider due under the Sankey award, the reason assigned for such omission being that official instructions are awaited interpreting the said award as applying to miners of clay as well as miners of coal; whether he is aware that all war advances secured by the latter have also been received by the former, all of whom were included in the recent plebiscite to determine the acceptance or rejection of the Sankey award and who, in many cases, descend the same mine shafts as the colliers; and whether he will take steps, with the least avoidable delay, to furnish the employers with such official interpretation of the award as will admit of an early resumption of work in the industry concerned?

Mr. WARDLE

I understand that this dispute was settled the day before yesterday.
