HC Deb 04 June 1919 vol 116 cc2044-5W
Mr. HARTSHORN

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that Stanley Tennant, a conscientious objector, who was rejected by the military authorities in 1916 as totally unfit for any kind of military service whatever, but was subsequently rearrested in December, 1917, is now serving his third sentence in Canterbury civil prison, and is in a serious state of health, and has been placed in the cell reserved for tubercular prisoners; and whether he will now authorise this man's release on health grounds?

Mr. SHORTT

This prisoner's health affords no ground for discharge. He has gained in weight since his reception in Canterbury Prison, and his removal to a special cell was allowed at his own request, and was not due to medical reasons.
